What is the difference between an audit and an inspection?
A health and safety inspection is generally limited to an examination of the physical conditions within an organisation in order to assess basic legal compliance.
A health and safety audit is the collection of information across all systems and procedures, including the physical environment, pertaining to the efficiency and reliability of the organisation’s total health and safety management system and involves drawing up plans for corrective action where necessary.
OM Safety Solutions Ltd can assist businesses that require inspections and health and safety audits of their management system. For smaller organisations, this might be as simple as a health and safety inspection of the premises and a review of current health and safety documentation. A report is then issued detailing all observations and recommendations.
Larger organisations may be looking for an external audit check of their health and safety management system. Our audits are carried out against the requirements of UK legislation and the principles contained in the Health and Safety Executive guidance on health and safety management systems – HSG65 Managing for Health and Safety.
