According to a recent report, there is currently a skills shortage within the construction industry – and it is growing year on year.
And this skills shortage is having a further, detrimental impact. Already this year, contractors have turned down two major bidding opportunities. The survey, carried out by Aecom, also states that some major contractors are having to turn down around 75% of new business opportunities, due to the fact that they just cannot compete with escalated labour costs due to the skills shortage.
On average, construction workers salaries have risen by 15% this year alone – and surely this is set to continue as the skill shortage continues to rumble on.
